A breast cancer survivor has urged others "not to be scared to get checked out". Chiara Mazzone had been attending annual screening appointments due a family history of the disease when she found out she had the condition herself. She said, having developed a non-cancerous lump in 2006, she had initially thought the tumour was part of that.

Sandy Denning from the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association is urging people to check their breasts regularly [BBC] Early detection is "key" when it comes to diagnosing and treating breast cancer, an Isle of Man charity has said, with the likelihood of complications increasing "the longer you leave it". October marks Breast Cancer Awareness month, an international health campaign held each year which promotes screening and seeks better outcomes for those diagnosed with the disease.

Number of island GPs at lowest for 20 years

Data shows the equivalent of 33.2 GPs were practicing on the island in 2024 [PA Media] The number of GPs on the Isle of Man has fallen to its lowest level in 20 years, new data has revealed. The 2024 Isle of Man in Numbers report, issued by Statistics Isle of Man, showed the were 33.2 full time equivalent doctors, with an average number of 2,689 patients each.
