Gold Coast woman loses everything after Labrador home caved in on her

While it was flooding for some, an extended power outage for others and forced downtime for many, Nadine Hartwig (nee Wright) has lost everything. The Labrador woman was taking shelter in her bathroom as ex-tropical cyclone Alfred tore through her apartment block, ripping the roof off above her. Riding out the half-a-century storm on her own, Ms Hartwig bunkered down under a mattress when loud sounds came from the roof. “I’ve lost it all,” she said.

Gold Coast weather: What to expect as temperatures soar

The Gold Coast’s sweltering weekend ended with a bang on Sunday, with storms sweeping in over the city. Temperatures soared into the mid 30s on Sunday, reaching as high as 35 degrees in Coomera as a massive heatwave continued across most of the state. The warm, humid weather stuck around for most of Sunday with storms beginning to move through the Coast at around 7pm. Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Angus Hines said more storms could be on the way.
