Drainage Mechanisms of Submerged Sinkholes
1. Introduction The formation of sinkholes as a result of the dissolution of a soluble rock layer and the generation of cavities, which collapse when their support fails, is a widely studied natural phenomenon [1,2,3,4]. Sinkholes began to appear along the western and eastern Dead Sea coasts in the early 1980s. The resulting total of more than 6000 sinkholes cause large-scale environmental damages and focus major concern on infrastructure, development, and safety in the area [5,6,7,8,9,,,,,].
