When a water droplet is placed on a rough surface that exhibits superhydrophilic properties, a spontaneous spreading phenomenon with an almost negligible contact angle. (1,2) This behavior can be explained by the classical Wenzel’s theory, (3−6) which attributes the enhanced wettability to the presence of surface roughness, which is applicable to surfaces that are naturally hydrophilic.
