1 Introduction The contamination of freshwater resources by anthropogenic activities, stemming from industrial effluent and non-sustainable agricultural methods, continues to constitute a severe threat to human health and ecosystems in general. Broad classification of water contaminants might be outlined into two major categories: organic contaminants and inorganic pollutants, specifically heavy metals, that are recognized by high atomic weight and relatively high density.
