Three New Yorkers died from heat-related illness during last week’s heat wave, Joe Calvello, spokesperson for Mayor Zohran Mamdani, confirmed in a statement. “All three passed away in their homes over the weekend. Our hearts are with their families and loved ones,” Calvello said. Roughly 500 New Yorkers die from heat-related illness every year, according to city officials. Temperatures topped 90 degrees for four consecutive days from Wednesday through Saturday last week.
