National supermarket shock: Why the ‘party of business’ has taken a hard left turn – Audrey Young
Finance Minister Nicola Willis is driving the policy and predicts it would create a price war that could only benefit consumers. Forcing the break-up of a supermarket chain isn’t the only policy in which National is moving left. Its compulsory KiwiSaver policy, with a baby bonus thrown in, is one that you could easily have seen in a Labour manifesto. But the supermarket policy, a replica of New Zealand First’s policy announced in April, is way more contentious.

Texas needs stronger evaluations for our school superintendents
Texas school boards have one employee—and only one employee. The superintendent. That fact should shape every conversation about school governance, accountability, and student success. Under Texas law, school boards are responsible for hiring, supervising, evaluating, and, when necessary, dismissing the superintendent. The superintendent is responsible for managing the district’s operations, finances, personnel, facilities, and educational programs. The board governs; the superintendent manages.
Texas must bring accountability to special education advocacy
By Dr. Audrey Young, Ed.D. Member, Texas State Board of Education, District 8 Every parent of a child with a disability wants the best possible education for their child. Navigating special education services, however, can be complex and overwhelming. As a result, many families seek assistance from special education advocates. While many advocates provide valuable support, Texas currently has no meaningful oversight of those who market themselves as experts in this field.
