1 Introduction Approximately 750 million people are living with Type II Diabetes Mellitus (T2D) worldwide in 2025 [1]. That number is projected to rise to over 1.2 billion by 2050 [2], with the greatest increase in prevalence occurring in middle-income countries [3]. In addition to the personal difficulties experienced by people with T2D, high prevalence of T2D also has a profound impact on society at large.
