Foreign national killed in Pietermaritzburg informal settlement

A 29-year-old foreign national has been killed at Jika Joe informal settlement in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal. It’s alleged the victim was attacked by a mob on Friday night. Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says they are investigating a case of murder. A group of foreign nationals has reportedly sought refuge at a local mosque. Netshiunda says the situation is calm and police continue to monitor the area. “It is calm at the Jika Joe informal settlement, and yes, there is no arrest yet.

All systems go for KZN as voter registration weekend kicks off

The Electoral Commission in KwaZulu-Natal says it is ready for the first national voter registration weekend, which takes place this Saturday and Sunday. KwaZulu-Natal currently has the highest number of registered voters in the country. The number of polling stations in the province has also increased. The IEC in the province says it’s all systems go. All 5 021 voting stations will be open by the weekend. This is an increase of 47 since the 2024 national elections.

IFP councillor Mbuso Mthimkhulu to be laid to rest in Ulundi

The Inkatha Freedom Party’s (IFP) Chairperson in Gauteng, Bonginkosi Dhlamini, will deliver the eulogy at the funeral of the party’s late councillor in the Rand West City Local Municipality, Mbuso Mzwandile Mthimkhulu, on Sunday. Mthimkhulu was shot and killed after attending a community meeting in Bekkersdal last week. He was elected in 2021 and served on the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).
