USDA flags Arizona for above‑average SNAP errors

PHOENIX–Arizona posted an error rate in handling food stamp applications last budget year higher than the national average, a move that could cost the state $208 million in federal penalties. New figures from the U.S. Department of Agriculture put the total error rate for the state at 10.8%. That includes more than 8.6% in overpayments and almost 2.2% where recipients got less than the amount to which they were entitled. That compares with the national rate of 10.6%.

PHOENIX – Attorney General Kris Mayes is dropping the criminal charges against the "fake electors" and their allies – for now. In a new court filing, Nicholas Klingerman who heads the agency's criminal division, said there is no way he could start a new grand jury probe by June 19.
