1. Introduction Marek’s disease virus (MDV), caused by Gallid alphaherpesvirus 2 (GaHV-2), was described for the first time in 1907 by Joseph Marek. It is a highly contagious alphaherpesvirus that induces neurological lesions, immune suppression, and tumor proliferation of lymphoid cells in poultry [1]. MDV infects chickens and causes cancer, with significant economic consequences for the poultry industry. Annual economic losses worldwide totaled USD 2 billion [2].
