Groundwater Connectivity and Buffering in Western Australian Hypersaline Lakes: Implications for Late-Stage Martian Lacustrine Systems
1 Introduction Across the Yilgarn Craton and surrounding regions in Western Australia, systems of paleovalley networks host acidic, saline to hypersaline lakes in environments that have undergone a transition from wet to more arid climates (George et al., 2008). These paleovalleys are among the oldest preserved large-scale fluvial systems on Earth, due to their tectonic stability and age of the host rocks (3.01–2.6 Ga) (Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, 2018).
The detection of marine microseismic activity with the CUORE tonne-scale cryogenic experiment - Communications Physics
|
Abstract Vibrations from experimental setups and the environment are a persistent source of noise for low-temperature calorimeters searching for rare events, including neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay or dark matter interactions. Such noise can significantly limit experimental sensitivity to the physics case under investigation. Here, we report the detection of marine microseismic vibrations using mK-scale calorimeters.

Being an Alternative Caregiver: Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma
Abstract Alternative caregivers play a vital role in South Africa’s alternative care system, providing care to maltreated children removed from their primary families. This qualitative descriptive exploratory study explored the experiences of 15 alternative caregivers of children who have experienced interpersonal trauma.
Ice‐Ocean Interactions on Ocean Worlds Influence Ice Shell Topography
1 Introduction Geologic and magnetic evidence suggest that Jupiter's moon Europa has a saline subsurface ocean below its icy exterior (Kivelson et al., 1997, 2000; Pappalardo et al., 1999). Radiolytic oxidant production at the surface of Europa's ice shell may couple with reduced species generation via rock-water reactions at the seafloor below, suggesting that Europa could support life (Carlson et al., 2009; Chyba, 2000; Hand et al., 2009; Vance et al., 2018; Zolotov & Kargel, 2009).
Publisher Correction: Heterogeneous melting near the Thwaites Glacier grounding line - Nature
Correction to: Nature https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-022-05691-0 Published online 15 February 2023 In the version of this article originally published, units on the colour bar in Fig. 4a, now reading “6, 3, 0,” were initially jumbled, reading “0, 36”. In addition, the scale was inverted. The units and scale have been corrected in the HTML and PDF versions of the article. Icefin vehicle The Icefin vehicle49 is a modular, hybrid, remotely operated vehicle with autonomous capabilities that was designed for use through holes bored or melted in ice (Extended Data Fig. 1). For this work, Icefin was fitted with sensors for scientific analysis of the ice–ocean system and navigation (Extended Data Table 1). Most water-column sensors are located in the vehicle nose to provide undisturbed water flow.

Impact heat driven volatile redistribution at Occator crater on Ceres as a comparative planetary process
Abstract Hydrothermal processes in impact environments on water-rich bodies such as Mars and Earth are relevant to the origins of life. Dawn mapping of dwarf planet (1) Ceres has identified similar deposits within Occator crater.
Post-impact cryo-hydrologic formation of small mounds and hills in Ceres’s Occator crater
Abstract The intimate mixture of ice and silicate within the uppermost few kilometres of Ceres influences its geology and the evolution of its subsurface. Both ground ice and cryovolcanic processes have been hypothesized to form geologic terrains on Ceres, including within Occator crater, where they have been suggested to influence the post-impact surface evolution.

Multiphase Reactive Transport and Platelet Ice Accretion in the Sea Ice of McMurdo Sound, Antarctica
Sea ice seasonally to interannually forms a thermal, chemical, and physical boundary between the atmosphere and hydrosphere over tens of millions of square kilometers of ocean. Its presence affects both local and global climate and ocean dynamics, ice shelf processes, and biological communities.
The Power of mind: Blocking visual perception by hypnosis
We recruited healthy participants at the University of Jena. Participants with neurological, psychological, cardiovascular, or visual diseases were excluded from the experiment. All participants signed informed consent statements. The study was approved by the ethics committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences of the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena and followed the ethics declaration of Helsinki.
Corrigendum: Linking high harmonics from gases and solids
After reading ref. 1 we became aware of a mistake in this Letter. The last sentence of the legend of Fig. 1b should have read: “The delay of the second harmonic is defined in cycles of the second harmonic.”. As a result, the even harmonics modulate twice per cycle of the second harmonic in Figs 1b, 3 and Extended Data Fig. 3, rather than once as stated. Two modulations per cycle are indeed expected for our experiment in ZnO, and have also been measured in gases.
The geomorphology of Ceres
Observations of Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt, have suggested that the dwarf planet is a geologically differentiated body with a silicate core and an ice-rich mantle. Data acquired by the Dawn spacecraft were used to perform a three-dimensional characterization of the surface to determine if the geomorphology of Ceres is consistent with the models of an icy interior. Instruments on Dawn have collected data at a variety of resolutions, including both clear-filter and color images.
