Anisotropic lattice distortion makes ultrastrong martensitic steel ductile
Abstract Making ultrahigh-strength as-quenched carbon martensitic steels ductile remains a critical challenge for structural applications. The ordered occupancy of carbon at interstitial sites in body-centred cubic martensite induces anisotropic lattice distortion, forming brittle body-centred tetragonal martensite with suppressed dislocation activity. Conventional tempering eliminates this distortion to improve ductility.

Reversible Multi-Color optical switch utilizing tetraphenylethylene and spiropyran Complexes: Applications in advanced information encryption
Currently, numerous secure information systems and confidential documents face significant risks of unauthorized access and data breaches [1], [2]. Consequently, there is an urgent need to design and develop innovative information encryption materials and technologies to enhance information security. Fluorescent materials such as carbon quantum dots, fluorophores, and lanthanide metal ions have attracted considerable attention due to their vivid fluorescence colors [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8].
EP16.17: Measurement of placental bed vascularisation during first trimester by using microvascular flow ultrasound imaging in normal pregnancies
Objectives To assess the reproducibility of microvascular flow (MV-Flow) imaging for the microvascular architecture in the placental bed and evaluate the correlation between vascular index (VI) in different segments of placenta and uterine artery during first trimester in normal pregnancy. Methods This prospective study evaluated the placental microvascular at 11 weeks to 13 weeks 6 days in women with singleton pregnancies.

High dislocation density-induced large ductility in deformed and partitioned steels
Many industrial applications require materials to have high strength while remaining pliable, or ductile. However, the microstructure that increases strength tends to reduce ductility. He et al. used a processing mechanism to create a “forest” of line defects in manganese steel. This deformed and partitioned steel was produced by cold-rolling and low-temperature annealing and contained a dislocation network that improved both strength and ductility.
High dislocation density-induced large ductility in deformed and partitioned steels
A wide variety of industrial applications require materials with high strength and ductility. Unfortunately, the strategies for increasing material strength, such as processing to create line defects (dislocations), tend to decrease ductility. We developed a strategy to circumvent this in inexpensive, medium Mn steel. Cold rolling followed by low-temperature tempering developed steel with metastable austenite grains embedded in a highly dislocated martensite matrix.
Can inactive blood donors be re-recruited? A stratified randomised pilot study
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment of inactive donors by telephone call and cell phone short message service (SMS), to assess the causes of donor self-deferral and to determine the appropriate sample size for a formal study We conducted a single-centre open-label parallel randomised controlled trial in Guangzhou, China.
Factors influencing blood donation: a cross-sectional survey in Guangzhou, China
Among the 1080 questionnaires collected, 1034 (95·7%) questionnaires were valid for this analysis, including 602 donors and 432 non-donors. Results revealed that helping patients (n = 405, 68·2%) was the main objective of blood donation, and self-perception of poor health (n = 138, 33·1%) was the main reason for not donating. Responses to questions raised by donors and inquiring about a donor's physical condition were thought to be the most important blood donation routines (n = 302, 65·5%).
