Updated July 15, 2026, 11:32 a.m. ET Up to 20,000 fish in the Maumee River died from fertilizer contamination in Henry County, according to news reports. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said in a July 13 statement to WTVG-TV 13 in Toledo that 18,000-20,000 fish died along 11 miles of the river. The dead fish range from 3-inch sunfish to carp over 40 inches long, according to the TV station. Spilled liquid fertilizer contaminated the water, WTVG reported.

July 11, 2026, 1:46 p.m. ET A man died in a shooting on Columbus' South Side, police said. Officers responded to the shooting at 9:29 a.m. July 11 on the 900 block of South 22nd Street, near Martin Park in the city's Southern Orchards neighborhood, Sgt. James Fuqua said. Medics took a man to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in critical condition, and he died at 11:08 a.m. the hospital. As of early afternoon July 11, Fuqua said it was not clear what lead to the shooting.

July 10, 2026, 10:16 a.m. ET A crash on Interstate 270 injured two people and caused significant traffic near Easton Town Center the morning of July 10. About four vehicles were involved in the crash at about 9:05 a.m., a Columbus police dispatcher said. The crash happened on I-270 south near Easton Way. Medics treated one person at the scene and took another to Mount Carmel East Hospital. Details about that person's condition were not available.
