Diagnostic delays in the treatment of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) are common and associated with worse radiological deformity. The experience of individual hospitals is limited, and mechanisms to consolidate care and learning throughout geographical regions may enhance care. There are several uncertainties, relating to severe disease, unstable SCFE, and the unaffected hip, that warrant the consideration of definitive randomized controlled trials.
