Introduction Anthropogenic climate change is recognized as a primary driver of contemporary global biodiversity declines due to its widespread effects on species abundances, ranges, and habitats (Wiens 2016, Mathes et al. 2021). However, sensitivity to climate change varies greatly among species, with some more severely impacted than others (Pyron et al. 2025); across broader taxa, mammals appear more sensitive than other vertebrates, which are in turn more sensitive than plants (Nunez et al. 2019).

1 INTRODUCTION “The biosphere, upon which humanity depends, is being altered to an unparalleled degree across all spatial scalesˮ (Brondizio et al., 2019). Humans have directly modified 77% of the land surface and 87% of oceans (Watson et al., 2018). As a result, an estimated 30% of global land area is degraded, directly affecting three billion people (Arneth et al., 2019; Brooks et al., 2019; Nkonya et al., 2016).
