Summation anaphylaxis: A challenging diagnosis
Key message When the cause of anaphylaxis remains unknown, it is necessary to consider summation anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is defined as “a serious, life‐threatening generalized or systemic hypersensitivity reaction” and “a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and might cause death”.1 The most frequent triggers of anaphylaxis in childhood are food, insect venom, and later, drugs. Less frequent causes are exercise, latex, immunotherapy, vaccines, and very rarely the cold and menses.
