From the very beginning, I knew the arrival of Archbishop Miller would change us forever. I have had the privilege of working with – and for – three Archbishops over the last 30 or so years. Each one was special, holy, and unique. They had different personalities and work styles, but similar traits: they were devoted to the faithful here in the Archdiocese, fervent in prayer, and men of deep religious conviction.

For those who were expecting surprises to come out of the Synod of Bishops in Rome, the only the only surprise was the Holy Father's acceptance of the final document on the last day. That sets the stage for the direct implementation of the assembly’s conclusions. The proposals, which include expanded leadership roles for women and greater participation in decision-making, will be good news for many.

The Second Session of the Synod of Bishops in Rome will be a critical moment for the Church to reflect on and respond to the evolving needs of being a synodal and missionary Church. It will involve prayerful discernment and dialogue on how to implement the orientations and proposals outlined in the Instrumentum laboris.
