1. Introduction Infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus leading to COVID-19 disease and respiratory failure is often associated with multiple air leak syndromes including pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum, pneumopericardium and subcutaneous emphysema [1,2,3]. Extensive parenchymal damage and pulmonary emboli may predispose to the development of necrotising pneumonia, lung cavitation and bronchopleural fistula (BPF) formation, with all leading to large, persistent air leaks (PAL).
