SA tourism losing ground to Morocco and Tunisia. Here’s what needs to change
South Africa is falling behind competitors such as Morocco and Tunisia in attracting international tourists, with visitor numbers from key markets including China and India still well below pre-Covid levels. Speaking to CapeTalk Afternoon Drive's John Maytham, Tourism Business Council of South Africa CEO Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa said the figures showed that South Africa’s strategies in those markets had not worked. “Those two markets are a concern for us,” he said.

Unexpected guardianship often begins with trauma, and the adult who steps in may be grieving at the same time as the child, says clinical psychologist Piwe Lufele. Speaking on The Clement Manyatela Show, Lufele said people can suddenly lose their independence, have to reorganise work and finances, and shift from being an aunt, uncle or grandparent into the role of primary caregiver. “There’s a loss of autonomy,” she said.
