1 Introduction Unpredictable events and rising economic and political uncertainties, which have been increasing over the last few years, have heightened awareness of supply chain (SC) vulnerabilities. More than ever, SC disruptions are impacting costs, timeliness and service levels of SCs, potentially limiting the ability of firms to assure continuity to their operations (Nikookar and Yanadori 2021).

1 Introduction The events of the last few years, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent geopolitical tensions, confirm that one of the main challenges in supply chain management (SCM) is exposure to severe disruptions. These negative events can raise unexpected issues related to raw material shortages and costs, due to the volatility of upstream supply chains, causing strains to relationships with suppliers (Raj et al. 2022; Rajaeifar et al. 2022).
