Abstract : Simple Summary Organ preservation strategies can be offered to patients with rectal cancer that show a strong response to preoperative treatment in order to avoid major surgery. Prediction models may help identify these patients before the start of preoperative treatment, when treatment can still be adapted. We systematically reviewed validated pretreatment prediction models for response to preoperative treatment in patients with rectal cancer.
Locoregional nodal regrowth in rectal cancer patients following a Watch-and-Wait approach: a clinical challenge?
Background: Rectal cancer patients with a clinical (near-)complete response to neoadjuvant treatment are eligible for Watch and Wait (W&W) as an alternative for total mesorectal excision (TME). The assessment of suspected nodal regrowth in patient following organ preservation is challenging; not all suspicious nodal disease is pathologically confirmed before starting (surgical) treatment.
