Dermatological plants and their uses in the Receptarium of Burkhard III from Hallwyl from 16th century Switzerland: Data mining a historical text and preliminary in vitro screening
Abstract Ethnopharmacological relevance: Historical texts on materia medica can be an attractive source of ethnopharmacological information. In recent decades, various research groups have investigated corresponding resources from Europe and the Mediterranean region, pursuing different objectives. Regardless of the method used in such a work, the indexing of textual information and its conversion into data sets useful for further investigations represents a significant challenge.
Charge controlled microfluidic formation of lipid-based single- and multicompartment systems
ABSTRACT: In this manuscript, we introduce a simple, off-the-shelf approach for the on-demand creation of giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) or multicompartment synthetic cell model systems in a high-throughput manner. To achieve this, we use microfluidics to encapsulate small unilamellar vesicles in block-copolymer surfactant-stabilized water-in-oil droplets.
Sequential bottom-up assembly of mechanically stabilized synthetic cells by microfluidics
Parts of the research leading to these results have received funding from the European Research Council/ERC Grant Agreement no. 294852, SynAd. This work is also part of the MaxSynBio consortium, which is jointly funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany and the Max Planck Society. The work was also partly supported by the SFB 1129 of the German Science Foundation and the VolkswagenStiftung (priority call ‘Life?’).
