1. Introduction Parkinson’s disease (PD) is recognized as a multi-systemic neurodegenerative disorder with motor and non-motor features resulting from a severely perturbed neurotransmitter system. Neuronal loss in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc), which causes striatal dopamine (DA) deficiency, and intracellular inclusions containing aggregates of α-synuclein are the main neuropathological hallmarks of PD [1,2].
