1 INTRODUCTION Phenology is the study of the cyclic phenomena occurring in plant and animal life. In particular, plant phenology focusses on the timing of different phases of the plant life cycle such as the development of new leaves in spring and their colouration in autumn and studies the mechanisms and factors driving these phenomena. Climate conditions are one of the main drivers of plant phenology.
