As we savour the last days of summer, what better way to spend your time (and escape the humid heat) than to visit our local independent cinemas? There are buzzy new films and stellar classics to enjoy! As I mentioned in my last Magic in the Dark, the ByTowne is screening the new film Tony, an Anthony Bourdain biography starring Dominic Sessa (The Holdovers) as the young Bourdain and co-written and directed by Canada’s own Matt Johnson (Blackberry, Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie).

Stuck in the city for the summer? Don’t fret – there’s plenty to do in Ottawa right now, and at the top of the list is to see a film or two or three! There’s even a Disney classic for the kids. Plus, there are cats! Lots of cats! Here are some films I recommend you enjoy in the first half of August at the ByTowne and the Mayfair. Christopher Nolan’s Greek epic isn’t playing at our fave independent cinemas (yet), but Steven Spielberg’s latest conspiracy drama, Disclosure Day, is at the Mayfair.
