In Vivo Effectiveness of Pleurotus ostreatus in Degradation of Toxic Metabolites of Filamentous Fungi Such as Aflatoxin B1 and Zearalenone
1. Introduction Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites biosynthesized by filamentous fungi widespread in all kinds of food products, as well as feeds [1,2,3]. About 25% of the world’s food crops are polluted by mycotoxins, according to a statement of the FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization) in 1985 [4], but Escola et al. [5] provided a new estimation which suggests a variation between 60 and 70%, according to reports about detected mycotoxins in recent years.
