1 INTRODUCTION Top-down and bottom-up factors act in concert to influence diversity and composition of a community (Gruner et al., 2008; Hillebrand et al., 2007). The interaction between these two factors highlights the interdependence of resources and consumer impacts on food webs and ecosystems.

B.S.: Languages do not share the same repertoire of terms, and these terms are largely influenced by culture and the environment in which a culture resides. In the past, we have attempted to create an ASL sign for each English word, and it has left us with a collection of technical signs that are disjointed and nonsensical. Instead, the deaf STEM community is developing a technical language framework that moves away from a vocabulary-centred approach to a concept-centred one.
