Kansas action for Children says more must be done

Education should be one of highest priority for states. However, the state of Kansas is ranked a dismal 26th in the nation. Recently the governor's office released a story about how the legislature was proud that there is a $26 million surplus from last years budget. Most Kansans that don't have children in the school system or childcare program would tell the government to keep that money for a rainy day.

There are 3 million Kansans that are affected by the state budget. Governor Kelly and Legislature create public policy in areas such as education, health, public Safety, human resources, plus other areas that are instrumental in creating a strong economy and livelihood. Kansans rely heavily on the state government to be fiscally prudent when it comes to spending money. The budget year of 2023 wrapped up in June.

US-59 resurfacing funding accepted by commission Original

At Monday's city commission meeting Clinton McNemee, Public Works and Utilities Director, gave a report on the US-59 Resurfacing (CCLIP) project. The Kansas Department of Transportation has selected the city's application for US-59 resurfacing for funding through the State Fiscal Year 2025 City Connecting Link Improvement Program. KDOT has allocated up to $400,000 (maximum award) in grant funding to re surface US-59 between 10th Street and the roadside park.
