Microfluidic Isolation of Disseminated Tumor Cells from the Bone Marrow of Breast Cancer Patients
1. Introduction Micro-metastasis plays a role in the prognosis of breast cancer (BC) patients; the presence of disseminated tumor cells (DTCs) in the bone marrow (BM) of the patients is associated with a poorer outcome [1], as well as with earlier locoregional and distant relapses [2,3,4]. BM can act as a niche for DTCs, where tumor cells can remain dormant, leading to disease recurrence after BC treatment [5,6].
