A quasibound gas-phase H2O– was detected, (1) but it is unstable in geometries close to the equilibrium structure of the water molecule. (2,3) Aggregated water molecules can cooperatively support a bound state for excess electrons, and negatively charged water clusters have been observed in many experiments.

Electron-triggered processes in halogenated carboxylates: Dissociation pathways in CF3COCl and its clusters Trifluoroacetyl chloride, CF3COCl, is produced in the Earth’s atmosphere by photooxidative degradation of hydrochlorofluorocarbons, and represents a potential source of highly reactive halogen radicals. Despite considerable insight obtained into photochemistry of CF3COCl, its reactivity towards electrons has not been addressed so far.
