1 Introduction Anammox bacteria are well known due to their ability to perform anaerobic oxidation of ammonia (Van Niftrik and Jetten 2012; Shaw et al. 2020). This process is utilized by wastewater treatment plants for the removal of nitrogen from wastewater (Wu et al. 2020; Mishra et al. 2022). Another interesting fact is that this bacterium possesses an organelle called anammoxosome, which is enveloped by a lipid bilayer.
