1 Introduction We are in the midst of a global epidemic of obesity and diabetes. World Health Organization estimates that – since 1980 - the number of adults living with obesity has doubled, and the number of adults living with diabetes has almost quadrupled (1). Obesity is associated not only with adverse cardiometabolic health outcomes, but also with impaired cognition (2, 3) and depressive symptoms (4).

Importance The prevalence of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is increasing, but data on its long-term effect on obesity-related comorbidities are scarce. Because the population of bariatric patients is young, long-term results of those comorbidities are highly relevant. Objective To investigate the long-term effects of LSG on weight loss, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and hyperuricemia.
