Synthesis of Bipyridine Ether-Type Bifunctional Precursors

1. Introduction Bipyridine ethers derived from 2,6-pyridinedimethanol and its derivatives have already been reported by several research groups focusing on the synthesis of pyridino-macrocycles [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12] or functional materials for supramolecular chemistry applications [13]. Two examples of these useful intermediates (1, 2) are shown in Figure 1.
