In this issue of the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Al Yacoub et al. (2024) report new findings in their paper “Recovery from Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Is Nociceptin/Orphanin FQ Peptide (NOP) Receptor Genotype-, Sex-, and Injury Severity-Dependent”, which suggest that nociceptin/orphanin FQ peptide (NOP) may play an adverse role in the pathogenesis of functionally significant deficits following traumatic brain injury (TBI) (Fig. 1).
Risk of Dementia After Hospitalization Due to Traumatic Brain Injury
Statistical Analyses We used Stata (version 15; StataCorp) to conduct the statistical analyses. Participants were considered to enter the study at the time of their participation in a FINRISK study and participant age was the underlying time measure. We defined the end of follow-up as death, date of dementia diagnosis, or December 31, 2017, whichever came first. To assess the association between TBI and risk of dementia, we used Cox proportional hazard models.
