Electroconvulsive therapy improves depressive symptoms rapidly and effectively by repeated induction of a generalized seizure; however, despite decades of use few ictal biomarkers are used to understand underlying mechanisms or predict treatment responses. Previously we described a novel biomarker, central-positive complexes (CPCs) elicited during ECT, which are generalized high-amplitude waveforms with maximum positive voltage over the vertex.
