Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss in an Immunocompetent Patient With West Nile Encephalitis
1 Introduction Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is a frequently encountered condition characterized by a drop of ≥ 30 dB in hearing over at least three consecutive frequencies within 72 h. Incidence of SSNHL is estimated at 5–27 per 100,000 and is increasing in the United States [1]. Most cases of SSNHL are idiopathic, posing a significant diagnostic challenge for clinicians.

Abstract Objective To report a case of α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor encephalitis (AMPARE) as a potential immune-mediated complication of palbociclib (a cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor). Background Medication-induced autoimmune encephalitis is an increasingly recognized entity. To date, cases have been reported with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), typically within 3 months and while cancer is responding to immunotherapy.
