specialty fruit vendors in NYC?
Was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. I'm always on the lookout for different varieties of melons, mangos, apples, etc. Does anyone know where I might find say, chanterais or Petit Gris melons or heirloom watermelons and apples? Wider selection of mango varieties besides the 1 or 2 commonly available ones (Tommy Atkins are awful, Kent is quite good, so are champagne)? It can be a stand at a greenmarket, a grocery store...wherever.
Family Power! - New Burmese in Fort Wayne
Had a great meal at the new Burmese restaurant Family Power at 5205 Decatur Road (260) 744-2720Closed Mondays. Photos attached... Mohinga: fish noodle soup. Served for breakfast and all day. Wide noodles with vegetables Menu. Waitress translated. Plain exterior, deliciousness interior. Please patronize the homey family-run eatery!
Together Burmese Food, Bensonhurst, Brooklyn
On Friday, a new restaurant opened near the Bay Parkway N station with the cuisine of Myanmar. The chef was previously seen inside of the King's Fruit Grocery on Avenue U in Gravesend, but has finally been able to open his own spot. Over three visits, me and some others were able to sample most of the Burmese side of the menu. Since these foods are unavailable except at the summer fundraising events, it is great news that such a delicious place has opened.
Brief Japan Report
Over Christmas and New Years went on a two week trip through Japan. Here’s a brief run down of some of the Chow highlights….. Tokyo: Excellent, inexpensive sushi restaurant in the basement of the Tokyu Depatment store in the amazing Food Show. Here's a blog I found with details, https://travelwithnanob.com/2016/09/2... I had the deluxe combo on the left. At a nearby Food Show stand $100+ melons. No samples were offered. Roast sweet potato truck in front of the Tokyo National Museum. Two kinds available.
Help with Sushi Lunch in Tokyo
Long time foodie and Chowhound lurker - first time nervous poster! I've been using Chowhound for a long time for all my travel food research, and first time posting. Looking for a reasonable (8000-15000yen max, possibly 20000yen if it is worth it) place for a sushi lunch. Some info: - I've already booked Sushi Iwa based on recommendations here - I don't speak any Japanese. It won't bother me if the sushi chef doesn't speak English, as long he/she doesn't mind either! - Considering Sushi Taichi.

A pretty specific question: I'm looking for bucatini/perciatelli in Park Slope that isn't the Ronzoni brand stuff. I'm not a fan of Ronzoni. I've had De Cecco before and it's fine; I hear tales of Barilla bucatini and how amazing it is, etc.Anyone seen any non-Ronzoni bucatini/perciatelli in Slope supermarkets?(And yeah apparently bucatini and perciatelli are the same thing. Best Burmese Food Outside Burma...in Fort Wayne?!
Fort Wayne, Indiana sits at the crossroads of the Rust Belt and the Bible Belt. In recent years it has become home to many Burmese refugees. The largest population outside of Burma. There are several Burmese groceries, a restaurant came and went. But now two new Burmese restaurants are there, making great homecooked foods. MAHNIN ASIAN RESTAURANT on South Calhoun is in a deco era building that for many years housed an auto dealership. The menu is mostly Thai dishes.
Indian Project - Midtown West Gem
Had an excellent meal at the new Indian Project @ 243 West 38th St bet. 7&8th. Flavorful samosa, lamb biryani, chicken tikka masala, chana masala, tandoori shrimp and blistered crisp nan. All very good, authentic Indian in a pleasant informal setting. I plan to return soon.
