The Progress-Index — FORT LEE - While his office maintains it was not an "official" announcement, Lt. Gov. Justin E. Fairfax told a group of senior citizens Tuesday that he will "be planning to run" for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2021.Fairfax made his plans known at the end of remarks to the Petersburg TRIAD, a coalition advocating for the protection of seniors' rights, Tuesday afternoon at the Lee Club.

POLITICO — Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, a Democrat who was accused of sexual assault in February (something he denies), plans on running for governor in 2021. A spokesperson confirmed his plans to run after he told a group of senior citizens he planned on doing so (which was first reported by the Petersburg Progress-Index’s Logan Barry). A new Mason-Dixon poll out today has Fairfax’s approval rating underwater, however: 37 percent of voters approve of the job he is doing as LG, while 44 percent disapprove (625 registered voters, Dec. 12-16, +/- 4 percentage point MOE).
