1 Introduction This narrative review on trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is an update of the article published in 2009 in the series “Evidence-based Interventional Pain Medicine According to Clinical Diagnoses.” [1] The previous term for this disorder is Tic Doloreaux, describing the characteristic wince often expressed during a pain paroxysm. TN is often misdiagnosed or underdiagnosed, but the best estimates at incidence are between 4 and 27 new patients per 100,000 individuals per year [2].
