Abstract Vanishing White Matter (VWM) is a leukodystrophy with cystic cerebral white matter degeneration, resulting in neurological decline and premature death. There is currently no treatment. Guanabenz, a central α2-adrenergic receptor agonist, ameliorates the disease in VWM mouse models.
