1 INTRODUCTION Until recently, offshore wind turbines have only been installed in shallow water areas where they are fixed to the seabed, most frequently by monopiles, jackets or gravity‐based structures. However, a large amount of the total potential for offshore wind power is believed to be in deeper waters, where floating substructures are the preferable solution. The Hywind Scotland wind farm is the world's first fully operational floating wind farm.
