Basit Jamiu’s Biography

Basit Jamiu is a Nigerian journalist with a strong focus on politics and current affairs. He currently works as an editor at Legit.ng, one of Nigeria’s leading digital news platforms. With over five years of experience in the media industry, Basit has held various roles including staff writer at The Movee in 2018, associate editor at Prime Progress in 2022, and staff writer at Ikeja Bird the same year. He graduated from Ekiti State University in 2018 and has since earned certifications such as the Google Digital Skills credential from the Google News Initiative in 2024.

Throughout his career, Basit has been recognized for his impactful journalism through several fellowships and awards. He was named an Open Climate Fellow for West Africa in 2024 and an MTN Media Fellow in 2023. He also participated in the OCRP Fellowship at the ICIR and the Accountability Fellowship at CJID. His writing has earned him accolades including Legit.ng's Best Editor of the Year in 2025, Humangle’s Best Feature Writing award in 2022, FIJ’s Best Writing of the Year in 2022, and the YNaija New Recipient Award back in 2018.
