Ayomide Ayoola (real name withheld), a Lagos resident, did not know that she mistakenly transferred N76,350 instead of N7,635 to Oluwaseye Adegboyega Falowo, an Uber driver, on July 5 until about nine hours later. The day was a Sunday. Ayoola told FIJ that she had booked the Uber ride to church in the morning and hadn’t noticed the excess payment until she wanted to make a transfer later that day, only to find that her account balance had reduced significantly.

Published 13th Jul, 2026 By Emmanuel Uti Simon Obute, a man living in New Oko-Oba, Lagos, has renewed his accusation against electricity distribution company Ikeja Electric for refusing to refund, in electrical units, the money it overcharged him for after almost two years. Obute told FIJ that, in spite of his efforts, including visiting the company’s office on several occasions before he got tired, the problem remains unresolved because Ikeja Electric would not take any action.
13.07.2026 Counterattack Police Plot Tuesday Arraignment for Journalist They Abducted in Abuja
After inviting him to collect his phone and laptop, which its officers seized, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF)’s National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC) briefly detained Stanley Ugagbe, a senior reporter at Secret Reporters, before releasing him and stating that he’ll be arraigned in court. According to Tega Oghenedoro, commonly known as Fejiro Oliver, the editor-in-chief of Secret Reporters, the police are planning to arraign Ugagbe on Tuesday before a High Court on charges of espionage and cybercrime.

Dotun Usman (real name withheld), a Lagos resident, paid N52,280 via his OPay account on June 29 to offset a loan he took from Ease Cash, but neither financial institution can account for the whereabouts of the money. Usman told FIJ on Friday that he took a loan of N80,000 from Ease Cash on June 17, and he was to repay a total of N106,680 in two instalments. So, he decided to pay the first instalment on June 29, a day before the initial repayment was due.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to probe claims that All Progressives Congress (APC) governors diverted N800 billion of public funds for campaign purposes. SERAP announced this on Sunday. The advocacy organisation said it filed the lawsuit against the electoral body at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
