The details of Rachel Reeves’s second Budget emerged earlier than planned after the Budget watchdog, the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), accidentally released its analysis, outlining a range of tax increases she was set to introduce in a bid to address the shortfall in the public finances. Reeves’ long-awaited and much-anticipated Budget sets out the UK’s economic and fiscal prospects for the period to 2030–31, incorporating new data with the Government’s latest policy measures.

On November 20th, UKAI hosted a Championing Equality in AI summit, featuring lively, collaborative discussions between policymakers, activists, industry leaders, technologists, academics, and legal experts to explore the development of fair, inclusive, and accountable AI systems, from design to deployment. The summit consisted of a series of three high-level panels, keynote contributions, and a fireside chat.

With a focus on boosting growth, creating jobs, and expanding innovation, the Government’s new investment aims to establish the UK as a global leader in AI development. Key components of the plan include billions in funding, the creation of AI Growth Zones, and enhanced support for British businesses, researchers, and startups. One of the centrepiece initiatives will be the establishment of AI Growth Zones across the UK, designed to foster local economic development while driving AI innovation.
