The old Tiger Bay had a fearsome reputation for danger and debauchery. But if you dared to venture into the dockland streets, you’d stumble across the whole world in just one square mile. The laughter from the late-night Maltese cafes would echo down lanes full of Chinese laundries, Arabian tea houses and Caribbean dancehalls, where sailors from Cyprus, Somalia and Sierra Leone would be trying their luck with the local Welsh girls.

I take great pride in the weekly Welsh show, Huw Stephens, which I present on a Monday night at 7pm on BBC Radio Cymru - the Welsh language radio station from the BBC. In fact, every night on BBC Radio Cymru, we play all the best Welsh language music, and there are so many great artists making music all the time. Once you discover it, you'll find five more artists doing great stuff, and so on and so on.
