What was your first job as a journalist?
I was a video editor for WWMT-TV in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I used one in elementary school, but computers overtook them thereafter.
How is social media changing news?
It's putting a greater demand on a catchy headline, unfortunately giving more weight to clickbait. But the occasional masterpiece can emerge.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be a journalist is to share truth to an audience in a way that helps them understand the world more fully.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Twitter, Slack, Trello, Google Docs, Wordpress or custom CMS platforms, Facebook, phones - whatever it takes.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes. I was primarily an opinion/comedy writer.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
A great journalist has a unique voice, the ability to tell a straight story, and the wisdom to know how to balance those ingredients.
