Consider Fully, Act Decisively: How to Take Charge in Any Situation in Your Life
“Consider fully, act decisively.” —Jigoro Kano, founder of Judo There’s a phase that many Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students go through: They’ve been training for a little while, they’ve learned some moves, and they’ve drilled those moves enough to know what to do with them. When they go to use these new skills in live sparring, though, they’re always late.
Three Simple Strategies for Achieving the Power of a Still Mind
— By Benjamin Chen No matter what field you’re in or job you do, chances are you sometimes feel overwhelmed. The modern world moves fast and demands we move fast with it. We’re never really off the clock, constantly fielding calls, text messages, calendar alerts, emails, and an incessant stream of news updates and ads flashing from all directions. All of this pulls at our attention, splitting our focus. It leaves us feeling scattered, hurried, and anxious. It’s an unpleasant state to experience.
A monoclonal antibody that inhibits the shedding of CD16a and CD16b and promotes antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity against tumors - Nature Communications
Abstract CD16a triggers antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and phagocytosis by natural killer (NK) cells and macrophages in anti-tumor immunity. However, CD16a undergoes cleavage by ADAM17 that dampens its anti-tumor immunity. We here develop a monoclonal antibody (F9H4) that binds to CD16a and inhibits its cleavage. F9H4 retains CD16a on the surface of NK cells and macrophages, without triggering or blocking CD16a.

Development and validation of an imageless machine‐learning algorithm for the initial screening of prostate cancer
Prostate specific antigen (PSA) testing is a low-cost screening method for prostate cancer (PCa). However, its accuracy is limited. While progress is being made using medical imaging for PCa screening, PSA testing can still be improved as an easily accessible first step in the screening process. We aimed to develop and validate a new model by further personalizing the analysis of PSA with demographic, medical history, lifestyle parameters, and digital rectal examination (DRE) results.

Keep viewers engaged with streaming insights
Every Friday night is pizza and movie night at my house. We pick up our favourite New York-style cheese pizza and settle down in front of the TV to find something to stream. But with two adults, a teenager, and a pre-teen in the room, it can be hard to find a show or movie that fits everyone’s tastes. We spend 15 minutes or more going in and out of apps, up and down VOD catalogues, using search, watching trailers, checking parental ratings, and arguing… all while our pizza goes cold.

Working With Monsters — LessWrong
This is a fictional piece based on Sort By Controversial. You do not need to read that first, though it may make Scissor Statements feel more real. Content Warning: semipolitical. Views expressed by characters in this piece are not necessarily the views of the author. I stared out at a parking lot, the pavement cracked and growing grass. A few cars could still be seen, every one with a shattered windshield or no tires or bashed-in roof, one even laying on its side.

The amount of money spent by these fans matches their enthusiasm: boundless.
