Diagnostic and prognostic implications of growth differentiation factor 15 in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction: a systematic review and meta-analysis
In this systematic review and meta-analysis, a total of 5,696 HFpEF patients were included from 28,193 participants. GDF-15 levels were significantly higher in the HFpEF patients compared to the control group of the non-HF population. GDF-15 has a good diagnostic accuracy in diagnosing HFpEF and appears to be slightly superior compared to conventional biomarkers.

A novel adaptive weight bi-directional long short-term memory (AWBi-LSTM) classifier model for heart stroke risk level prediction in IoT
The Internet of Things (IoT) has been widely used in several applications, particularly in recent decades (Gubbi et al., 2013). Many medical applications now extensively utilize IoT to support individuals with their health conditions. As a result, the importance of mobile health services has increased, as they are crucial for monitoring and managing patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease (Yuehong et al., 2016; Guariguata et al., 2014).

Heart failure survival prediction using novel transfer learning based probabilistic features
The primary cause of heart failure (HF) is coronary artery disease (CAD), often precipitated by arterial blockages leading to heart attacks. Heart disease or high blood pressure is also associated with HF (Gjoreski et al., 2017). Various factors contribute to heart diseases, including recognized parameters such as alcohol intake, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, and a lack of exercise routine.

DEVOUR: Deleterious Variants on Uncovered Regions in Whole-Exome Sequencing
DEVOUR works with a set of inputs; a read alignment file (SAM or BAM) for the WES experiment, a Browser Extensible Data (BED) file for the regions targeted by the WES capture kit, a read depth threshold to identify low-coverage regions, a human reference genome version (i.e., hg19 or hg38), and a list of annotation resources for clinically significant (e.g., deleterious) variants. DEVOUR works in three main steps as represented in Fig. 2.

Recurrence risk prediction of acute coronary syndrome per patient as a personalized ACS recurrence risk: a retrospective study
Discussion ACS is a major public health concern all over the globe, which causes 1.8 million deaths per year (Padilla, Martín-Asenjo & Bueno, 2017). Cardiac events as well as these numerous deaths have a serious impact on the world economy which is a result of hospitalization expenses, such as coronary intervention, drugs, and/or surgery. An accurate diagnosis and timely proper treatment can save patients from losing their lives.
The impact of aging and physical training on angiogenesis in the musculoskeletal system
Conclusions In light of the available data, aging of the muscle–bone unit leads to capillary rarefaction, which results in limited blood flow and an impairment of skeletal muscle and bone functionality. Aging downregulates the expression of the crucial stimulators of angiogenesis, including a decrease in NO• bioavailability, attenuation of the key pro-angiogenic factor VEGF and its receptors (Flt-1 and KDR), and VEGF regulator (HIF-1α-dependent).

South Asian ethnicity is associated with a lower prevalence of atrial fibrillation despite greater prevalence of established risk factors: a population-based study in Bradford Metropolitan District | EP Europace | Oxford Academic
Atrial fibrillation (AF) affects 1–2% of the general population, and its prevalence is expected to double over the next 50 years.1 It is associated with a 4–5 times increase in stroke risk2 and a 1.5–1.9-fold increased risk in mortality.3 Patients with AF also have reduced cardiac output, which leads to heart failure; this results in an increased frequency of hospital admissions1 and reduced quality of life.
Clinical predictors of cardiac magnetic resonance late gadolinium enhancement in patients with atrial fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia in the world and is associated with significant morbidity as well as rising attributable mortality.1 At a structural level, AF is associated with electrical and mechanical atrial remodelling, which provide the substrate for AF initiation and maintenance.2,3 At a clinical level, increasing age, hypertension, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) are associated with incident AF.4,5 A recent study showed...
Magnetic resonance imaging of atrial fibrosis: redefining atrial fibrillation to a syndrome
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is an atrial arrhythmia characterized on the electrocardiogram by an irregular ventricular interval and the absence of distinct organized atrial activity.1 The prevalence of AF increases with age, it is very rare before the age of 40, but almost 25% of the general population older than 80 years suffers from episodes of AF.2 The current classification of AF3 is based on the arrhythmia's temporal behaviour and AF is considered a progressive disease:4 patients with...
All-cause mortality by age and gender based on coronary artery calcium scores
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) has the highest morbidity and mortality rate of any disease process.1 However, effective preventive therapies are available that can reduce CVD events.
Catheter ablation in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation
Recent prevalence estimates suggest that at least 33.5 million persons are affected by atrial fibrillation (AF).1 Catheter ablation is increasingly offered to relieve AF-related symptoms,2–4 based on evidence illustrating its efficacy compared with antiarrhythmic drug therapy.5–9 There is less evidence supporting AF ablation in persistent AF, although small studies suggest better maintenance of sinus rhythm.
African Americans with left ventricular hypertrophy and chronic kidney disease: what should we do?
Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have an exceedingly high incidence of cardiovascular diseases including heart failure. Cardiac morphological abnormalities such as left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) are associated with an increased incidence of heart failure, ventricular arrhythmias and death [1, 2]. Seventy-four percent of patients with CKD have LVH, which in part explains their high incidence of cardiovascular diseases, hospitalization and death [3, 4].
