From Discrimination to Dominance? How Status Threat Is Linked to Male Refugees’ Gender Beliefs
Abstract The inflow of young male refugees into Germany in 2015 prompted increased public support for far-right groups portraying them as threatening. Applying Social Identity Theory, we argue that discrimination threatens refugees’ self-esteem by signaling their low status.
Warmth and Competence Predict Immigrant Pupils' Social Integration
International migration has been increasing for decades and, in 2020, 36 of the 281 million international migrants were children (United Nations 2020). Like many other Western countries, Germany—the national context of this study—is as a result becoming increasingly multicultural (Deutsche Welle 2023). The successful social integration of immigrant children is vital as it is linked to their mental health (Li and Jiang 2018; Oppedal et al. 2004; Potochnick et al.

LMXSC Elicits Hubristic Pride and Social Undermining in Individuals with High Trait Dominance

Recruitment discrimination of lifetime classic psychedelic users is unjustified: Evidence from employees' motivation-based workplace absenteeism
Abstract Background and aims Although large-scale population studies have linked the use of classic psychedelics (lysergic acid diethylamide, psilocybin, or mescaline) to reduced odds of physical health problems, mental health problems, and criminal behavior, the roughly 35 million adults in the United States who have used classic psychedelics are nonetheless stigmatized in the American job market.
Targeting CD38-dependent NAD+ metabolism to mitigate multiple organ fibrosis
Highlights • CD38 shows elevated expression in skin biopsies of patients with systemic sclerosis • Elevated CD38 is associated with reduced NAD+ and augmented fibrotic responses • Genetic loss of CD38 is associated with increased NAD+ levels and attenuated fibrosis • NAD+ boosting via CD38 inhibition or NR supplementation prevents multi-organ fibrosis Summary The processes underlying synchronous multiple organ fibrosis in systemic sclerosis (SSc) remain poorly understood.
In scleroderma, rheumatology nurses essential to treat the ‘whole patient’
ORLANDO — Rheumatology nurses are necessary for helping to care for “the whole patient” with scleroderma, including its various manifestations and impacts on the patients’ social, mental, personal and physical health, according to Benjamin D. Korman, MD, of the University of Rochester.
Adipocyte-specific Repression of PPAR-gamma by NCoR Contributes to Scleroderma Skin Fibrosis
In this study, we investigated the effect of adipocyte-specific loss of the PPAR-γ corepressor NCoR on skin fibrosis and its expression in patients with SSc. The results indicate that adipose-specific NCoR ablation ameliorates the development of dermal fibrosis in mice. Moreover, skin fibrosis in SSc is accompanied by increased NCoR activity and decreased expression of PPAR-γ-regulated genes.
